Around us.

There is a huge amount to do around Machynlleth and the Dyfi (Dovey) Valley. Here are just a few…

  • Machynlleth Town is the Ancient Capital of Wales - with a popular street market every Wednesday, butchers, bakers, supermarket, art galleries, clothes, ironmongers, excellent book shops, antiques, cafés, Fish and Chips, Pizzeria, Eco home products and more...

  • Beaches at Aberdyfi, Borth and Ynyslas, all within easy reach, and all with huge amounts of space.

  • Mountains - We’re surrounded by the Cambrian Mountains, and southern end of Snowdonia National Park. There’s loads of space to get off the beaten track and away from the regular crowds in this less well-trodden area of the UK. The long-distance Glyndwr's Way passes through here, or there’s mountain biking, bird-watching, painting, photography, picnics by waterfalls and miles of walking to be had.

  • Bird watching - a wide variety of species can be seen from the cottages - Redstarts, Tree Pipits, Meadow Pipits, Willow Warblers, Black Cap, Whitethroat, Red Kite, Grasshopper Warbler and many more unusual and common species.  The RSPB reserve at Ynys-hir is a short drive away, as is the Dyfi Osprey Project where you can see live images of a pair of osprey on the nest on the estuary (until they migrate in September).

  • Culture - See contemporary Welsh art at MOMA Machynlleth, which is also home to the Gwyl Machynlleth Festival classical and folk music and arts festival in August. There is the Machynlleth Comedy Festival in May. Aberystwyth Arts Centre, Ceredigion Museum & Arts Centre and the National Library of Wales all at Aberystwyth.

  • Good food - excellent pubs and restaurants, great fish caught locally, locally produced bacon, fresh eggs from our own hens.

  • Environment - Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT) near Machynlleth towards Corris.

  • Wildlife - Red Kite country, Dyfi Osprey Project, otters, doormice, wild flowers, badgers, dolphins in Cardigan Bay.
